Village Coffers Overflowing with Parking Ticket Funds

The new era of Andover Village policing is upon us and it is a boon to the Village coffers as they rake in the dough with parking tickets.* Visitors in town for the Allegany Artisans Tour, or shoppers at other Main Street establishments are baring the brunt of the new stricter parking measures this weekend.

This has lead local business people to put up their own parking notices to hopefully prevent their customers from getting a ticket as present signage is unclear in certain areas. Apparently according to local sources many of the parking signs were removed when the new side walk was put in on Main Street back in ancient times (2006ish) and the state did not replace them. This includes "No Parking Here to Corner" signs as well as the old 2 hour parking limit signs. There is no dispute over the areas in question being no parking areas, just that the signage puts out of towners at an unfair disadvantage.

This homemade sign is about 20 feet closer to the corner than the "official" sign that is on front of the medical center before the pub parking lot.

Local Business owner Stephen Walker, who received a parking ticket himself a couple weeks ago states "No Comment." Off the record he did curse a little. Steve did later post on Facebook offering to pay any parking tickets that his customers got while shopping at his store on Saturday 10/18 due to the zealous ticket distribution. They can reach out to him by calling or stopping in at Walker Metalsmiths.

The Village residents are apparently so well behaved that our fine officers have plenty of time to write parking tickets to out of town visitors supporting our small businesses on Main Street. The ATV crowd has been following the ATV route and wearing helmets. Village youths are at an all time low when it comes to shenanigans. Hardly a nefarious deed has been committed around the Village of Andover.

Statistics were unavailable** at the time of publication, but Andover may be on track to be the parking ticket capitol of Allegany County by year end if we keep up the hard work.

*♡~*Update*~♡*

Here is the view of the "No Stopping Here to Corner" sign that has embroiled Andover in controversy. Steve removed his homemade "No Parking" sign as it was lacking in artistic flair. He added some very nice cones to make sure our Village streets are safe for the public during today's events.

*You're still going to have to pay your property taxes though sorry.

**Honestly I didn't look hard. I'll ask at the Board meeting this coming Tuesday.
